Fire Protection System (Fire Valves, Sprinkler Valves, Alarm Valves)
1. Application Scope
Mainly used in building fire protection systems, including fire pipelines in office buildings, shopping malls, residences, factories and other places.
- Fire valves are used to control the on-off of fire pipelines, facilitating the inspection and maintenance of the fire protection system.
- Sprinkler valves are used for automatic water sprinkling to extinguish fires and cover fire areas when a fire breaks out.
- Alarm valves are used to detect pressure changes in fire pipelines, trigger alarm signals in the event of a fire, and activate the sprinkler system simultaneously. They are the core control components of the fire protection system.
2. Core Features
- Large-diameter design (usually DN50–DN200) to meet the high-flow demand of fire water supply.
- High pressure resistance, able to withstand high pressure in fire systems (usually 1.6–2.5 MPa) without rupture or leakage.
- Zero-failure operation, with rapid response in emergencies such as fires, no jamming or failure.
- High material strength and corrosion resistance, enabling long-term standby status and long service life.
3. Processing Notes
- Strictly control the casting process. Valve bodies are made of ductile iron or cast steel. Defects such as sand holes, blowholes, cracks and shrinkage cavities must be avoided during casting to ensure strength and resistance to high-pressure impact. Annealing treatment is required after casting to relieve casting stress and improve stability.
- Ensure reliable switching action. The fitting clearance between the valve core and body shall be moderate, with smooth operation and no jamming, enabling quick opening without delay in a fire. The actuation sensitivity of sprinkler valves and alarm valves must meet standards to respond to pressure changes and trigger alarms and water sprinkling in a timely manner.
- Mandatory strength and seal tests: After processing, conduct a strength test at 2.0 times the rated pressure (hold pressure for 30 minutes, no deformation or rupture) and a seal test at 1.5 times the rated pressure (hold pressure for 60 minutes, no leakage) to meet fire safety requirements.
- Adopt large-bore, low-resistance flow passages to ensure smooth and unobstructed fire water flow to the fire area quickly. The inner wall of the flow passage must be smooth, free of burrs and impurities to avoid affecting flow velocity.
- Complete surface anti-corrosion treatment using galvanizing, painting or other processes. Coatings shall be uniform, firm, free of missing areas or peeling, to resist rainwater and dust erosion, prevent rust, and maintain long-term standby status.
4. Selection Guide
- Products must comply with fire certifications, such as the national compulsory 3C certification and GB 5135.1–2019 Automatic Sprinkler Systems – Part 1: Sprinklers. Uncertified products are strictly prohibited in fire systems to avoid malfunction and safety accidents during fires.
- Prioritize ductile iron or cast steel valve bodies. Ductile iron features high strength, good toughness and corrosion resistance; cast steel provides high pressure and impact resistance to meet heavy-duty fire system demands. Avoid ordinary cast iron valves, which are prone to rupture.
- Choose products with stable and reliable normally open / normally closed status. Select normally open or normally closed fire valves according to the application scenario, with stable status and no automatic opening or closing. Sprinkler valves and alarm valves shall have high actuation sensitivity to respond quickly to fire signals without failure.
- Inspect appearance and workmanship: no cracks, sand holes or corrosion; flat connecting flanges and good sealing performance. Check product parameters to ensure diameter and pressure range match the fire system, as well as the product warranty and after-sales support.
