Stainless steel internal hexagonal countersunk rivets, double hexagonal anti-slip building hardware
Application and Industry Terminology of Building Hardware in Decoration and Renovation Engineering
Decoration and renovation engineering is an important supporting scenario for building hardware. Hardware components not only undertake the basic functions of fixing and connecting, but also serve the purpose of decoration and beautification, which directly affects the overall texture and user experience of the decoration. This section focuses on commonly used building hardware products in indoor and outdoor decoration processes, clarifies their industry terms, application scenarios and core functions, covering the entire decoration process, providing a detailed reference for decoration design, material selection and procurement.
1. Decorative Hardware
(Core industry terms: handles, decorative fasteners, metal trims, ceiling keels, partition connectors, decorative rivets, decorative screws, metal panel hangers)
Such hardware focuses on decoration + practicality, widely used in indoor ceiling, wall decoration, floor paving, furniture matching and other links.
- Handles are the most commonly used decorative hardware. Classified by use: cabinet door handles, drawer handles, door and window handles; by material: stainless steel handles, brass handles, aluminum alloy handles, zinc alloy handles; by style: minimalist, European, Chinese. Their shape and material directly define the overall decoration style.
- Decorative fasteners are used for fixing and connecting decorative panels and trims, commonly including buckles, pressure strips and decorative covers in the industry, mainly to hide joints and improve aesthetics.
- Metal trims (stainless steel, aluminum alloy, brass) are used for edge closing and modeling of walls, floors and ceilings, to divide space and add decoration, also known as decorative edge strips in the industry.
- Ceiling keels are basic supporting components for ceilings, divided into light steel keels and aluminum alloy keels, and main keels and auxiliary keels by function; often classified by specification (U‑shaped, C‑shaped), directly determining the flatness and load‑bearing capacity of the ceiling.
- Partition connectors are used for fixing and connecting glass, metal and wooden partitions, including glass clamps and partition brackets, ensuring partition stability.
- Decorative rivets and decorative screws are used for fixing decorative panels and hangers, with various head shapes (round, countersunk, decorative), combining fixing and decorative effects.
- Metal panel hangers, known as dry hangers in the industry, are used for installing marble, granite and metal panels, including back bolts, hangers and connectors, serving as core hardware for exterior wall and high‑end interior decoration.
2. Nails, Screws and Mesh Products
(Core industry terms: round steel nails, self‑tapping screws, wood screws, expansion screws, steel wire mesh, steel plate mesh, welded wire mesh, mesh cloth)
Such hardware is basic consumable in decoration construction, mainly used for material fixing, wall reinforcement, protection and isolation, with large usage and strong universality.
- Round steel nails (commonly known as iron nails) are mainly used for fixing wooden materials such as wood keels and wood board splicing, available in 10mm, 20mm, 30mm and other lengths.
- Self‑tapping screws are the most commonly used screws in decoration, divided into wood self‑tapping, gypsum board self‑tapping and metal self‑tapping screws, which can be directly driven into materials without pre‑drilling, widely used for fixing gypsum boards, wood boards and metal sheets.
- Wood screws are similar to self‑tapping screws but with coarser threads, mainly for deep fixing of wooden materials.
- Expansion screws (metal and plastic) are used for fixing heavy objects on non‑load‑bearing walls, such as hangers and brackets.
- Steel wire mesh, steel plate mesh and welded wire mesh are mainly used for wall reinforcement and protection isolation, such as laying steel wire mesh before plastering to prevent cracking, and used for outdoor guardrails and balcony protection nets.
- Mesh cloth (fiberglass and metal) is mainly used for anti‑cracking treatment of walls and ceilings, an indispensable basic consumable in decoration.
In addition, some special hardware is also used in decoration and renovation engineering, such as stone dry hangers, tile hangers, wallpaper knives, glass glue guns, etc., with unified industry terms to facilitate communication between construction and procurement personnel. Meanwhile, hardware of different materials and specifications varies greatly in applicable scenarios and performance, so accurate selection is required according to decoration requirements.
